Now in its eleventh year | TV PROGRAMME Both National and International TVs are expected to broadcast several reports of GEF.
“PINK DOLPHIN” The school entering the greatest number of different competitions/festivals within GEF 2010 will receive the GEF’s “Pink Dolphin”. The highest number of points scored from all the competitions, divided by number of competitions will be used to establish the winner between schools with an even number of entries. The panel’s decisions are final.
PARADE On Thursday the 22 of April 2010 in the afternoon all the finalist schools in all competitions are invited to parade through the streets of Sanremo. Each group will be carrying a placard or a banner bearing the school’s name, their geographic area and their nation. Each school must notify us if they wish to take part in the parade, as requested in the registration form. They should possibly arrive in Sanremo by Wednesday April 21or at the latest Thursday morning April 22 . For event management reasons or due to bad weather conditions GEF’s Committee may decide to cancel the parade. Their only obligation will be to notify the schools. Parts of the parade will be shown in the official GEF 2010 DVD.
“STUDENTS’ WHITE NIGHT” The Committee of GEF has created a “Students’ White Night” on Friday 23 April 2010. At the end of the Dance and the Fashion finals the “Students’ White Night” will start. All finalist schools will perform in the open-air of the town in a great public celebration with all the local schools. The festivities will go on until 3 a.m.
FINALS While in Sanremo all finalist schools, will be entitled to watch the final performances of Eurotheatre, participate in gatherings with famous people invited by GEF and watch the final performances of dance, fashion and music. Official participants will have free entry. All those accompanying the participants are expected to pay. All seats must be booked and will be available till sold out.

Art.1 The eleventh edition of the “International School Festival of Music” is organized as part of GEF, and its finals will take place in Sanremo in April 21 - 25, 2010. Finalist schools will perform the selected pieces live during the competition finals in Sanremo, on the stage of the settled venue for the finals. During the competition finals a gathering with a famous music personality and the students of finalist schools will be organized.
Art.2 Entry is open to public and legally registered private schools from Italy and other countries. Private music schools are regarded as a special category. The Festival is divided into 4 categories: A – Pre-schools and primary schools B – Lower secondary schools C – Upper secondary schools D – “Special” category – Music Schools of every type and level (age of participants 5 – 19 years)
Art.3 Each school may submit a maximum of 5 pieces performed by their students. Musical pieces, songs, cover, from any musical genre (classical, opera, jazz, pop-rock-rap, famous songwriters’ songs, electronic music, new age, new trends, choirs and large groups, cover, folk music) may be submitted and performed by single artists and groups of any kind. Each piece must be performed by minimum nr.6 students (musicians and/or singers). The same students can’t participate also in the dance festival and/or in the school bands Festival and /or in the school musicals festival. The school can participate also in other competitions with other students.
Art.4 Each piece will last between 2 and 4 minutes and will be submitted as a recording in one of the following formats: CD or DVD. They must be accompanied by a completed registration form and by a copy of the receipt as proof of payment for the entrance fee for each piece submitted. The following details must be clearly written or printed on a sticker on the cover: name of school; full name and class-group of performers; title of the piece, genre (see art.3); author; duration, clearly stating if it is an original piece or an arrangement, whether or not it was ever performed, etc. All entrants must be current students at the participating school.
Art.5 A completed entry form must be submitted by the 15thof February 2010 including: (this not to be excluded from the selection): · All the requirements of Art.4. · Proof of payment of the entrance fee of € 160,00 net for each piece submitted. Send it to: GEF – “Schools Festival of Music” – Via Roma 166 – 18038 Sanremo - Italy The postmark will be used as proof of date.
Art.6 All material submitted will remain the legal property of GEF, to be used as needed and will not be returned.
Art.7 The schools admitted to the competition finals will be contacted by March 10, 2010 and told which piece/s are selected, and the performance dates. The schools admitted to the competition finals must send confirmation in writing by fax and registered postal mail by March 17, 2010, they must also send: a) SIAE card, copyrights, specify. b) Specification for SIAE when music is without copyright fee. Schools admitted to the competition finals whose work/s are not subject to SIAE copyright payments, must state so in writing by sending a letter of authorization to the organizing committee c) technical specifications; d) Proof of payment of €250,00 for each finalist piece.This figure includes copyright during the live exhibition in Sanremo . Funds raised from all entry fees, after costs and taxes, will be donated to charity. The donations will be presented to the relevant charities, during the closing ceremony at the settled venue, on Sunday April 25, 2010.
Art.8 All the music pieces received will be judged by a panel of experts who will shortlist pieces for the competition finals.
Art.9 All pieces short-listed for the competition finals must be performed live by the finalists, in Sanremo, on the stage of the settled venue for the finals, (except if they are excluded, and they will be owed no money). A panel of expert judges will select the winners. Selection will be based not only on the usual technical and artistic criteria (intonation, dynamics, performing technique, expression) but also on potential emerging both from the pieces performed and their performance. The Panel’s decisions are final. Each finalist school must provide all equipment needed to perform with (sheet music, instruments etc.) The Organization will provide professional audio and lighting equipment (technical specifications will be communicated at a later stage) including back line, a baby grand piano, a keyboard and drums. Each finalist musical piece and the name of the school will be included in the official bilingual catalogue (Italian/English) of GEF 2010.
Art.10 All entrants and each school taking part in the competition finals in Sanremo will undertake to pay for its own board and lodgings. For reasons of organization and event management, finalists and accompanying adults coming from a distance above 150 km from Sanremo, or anyone spending nights in Sanremo while taking part in GEF 2010, will need to stay at least two nights and book through GEF choosing accommodation from the enclosed price list and packages in order to gain accreditation and be able to take part in the competition finals. Each school admitted to the finals will be sent a booking-form by the booking organization outlining modes of payment. Considering the thousands of bookings processed during the previous edition of GEF, early bookings are highly recommended. All official participants in GEF’s final stages will receive GEF’s gadgets.
Art.11 There will be a final performance on Sunday morning April 25, at the settled venue, with performances and a GEF 2010 award presentation to the assigned winners of the music, dance, school bands and fashion competitions. Other prizes awarded will be the prize “Global Education Awards” (in its twelfth year). This is the only international education prize awarded each year to persons and associations who through their thoughts, words and actions, have fostered the growth and development of education.
Art.12 The winners in each category will be awarded the “GEF Trophy”. Among the winners, in each category A / B / C/ D, one will be awarded the prestigious “School Creativity Award” (Silver Dolphin) as the absolute winner, at the end of the final performance, which will take place live in Sanremo. A special prize “The Audience Award” will go to the piece receiving the highest number of votes from the audience during the night of the final competition of the International School Festival of Music. The judging panel may award other prizes (best arrangement, best interpretation, etc.) even for reasons not directly linked with music (good rapport with the audience, professional performance, welcoming attitude, looks etc.). All prizes will be awarded to the School. All participating schools will receive a certificate of participation.
Art.13 “STUDENTS PRIZE” This prize will be awarded to the best work by a judging panel of students, selected and approved by GEF’s organizing committee. The panel of judges will be different for each competition. The panel’s decision are final.
Art.14 GEF reserves the right to record and/or film and/or broadcast the event in its entirety or in part, using any medium (print, photography, radio, television, audio-visual etc.) and to accompany the event with one or more promotion or publicity, without owing any payments to anyone or to any participants.
Art.15 Any changes to the competition finals in Sanremo, which might occur due to technical or administrative reasons will be notified forthwith to the interested parties.
Art.16 All works received will remain the property of GEF and will be published or used in other shows at GEF’s discretion. No money will be owed to anyone or to any participant.
Art.17 All printed matter and logos are protected by copyright; therefore any unauthorized use is forbidden. Anyone trying to use any of them without authorization will be duly prosecuted.
Art. 18 GEF’s Organizing Committee, the promoting association and the company providing technical support will not accept any liability for personal or material injuries or accidents occurring while travelling or during the Festival.
Art. 19 Anyone taking part in the event is expected to have read and understood the conditions set by these regulations and to accept them unconditionally. Participation to the event also implies that each participant explicitly agrees to allow GEF to access its archives and process all personal data provided, according to the Act D.L. n. 196 del 30/6/2003, and admits knowledge of his/her rights as set of the above mentioned Act of Parliament. |
