FINAL PRESS RELEASE

This year again GEF - The World Festival of Creativity in Schools, and a major reference point in the world of education, has attracted to the Sanremo finals students, teachers, school workers, and experts from Italy and elsewhere in the world, in spite of the international financial crisis and the problems caused by the Icelandic volcano erupting, with many flights cancelled and numerous finalists unable to attend.

29 Countries (Italy, the Czech Republic, Moldavia, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Sweden, China, Croatia, USA, Great Britain, Russia, the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Georgia, Tajikistan, Romania, Lithuania, Serbia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Poland, Greece, Hungary, Turkey, France, Uzbekistan, Switzerland, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, and Latvia), 2.138 participants, 103 schools and over 17,000 visitors attended the  finals in Sanremo.

This was the result of a year of active marketing developed and conducted by the GEF’s international team, and its over half million contacts worldwide.

These figures from the 12th year of GEF - The World Festival of Creativity in Schools once again confirm this as the main international event in the field of education and explain the success of GEF’s 12th year.

The final stages of GEF 2010 took place in several venues in Sanremo, some concurrently, namely: Teatro Ariston (music, musicals, school music bands, dance and ballet, and fashion), Palafiori (theatre, exhibition area, and various kinds of meetings) Piazza Colombo (“Ciao GEF”: music, dance, solidarity), town streets (parade) and “GEF Welcome Party” at Victory’s. As usual the judging panels for each competition included highly qualified members of international renown.

GEF has obtained the stamp of approval of the President of the Italian Republic and the high patronage of: the European Parliament, the Presidency of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, the Minister for Youth, The Ministry for Economic Development, The Ministry of Work, Health and Social Policies, The Ministry for Equal Opportunities, Sanremo’s Local Government, Sanremo Promotion, Regione Liguria, Provincia di Imperia, UNESCO’s Italian Commission, UNICEF (Regional Ligurian Committee), The international Institute of Humanitarian Law, SIAE Società italiana degli Autori ed Editori.

Other important events this year were: “sanremoJunior”, an international singing and music competition for soloist singers (pop music) and soloist musicians (classic and folk music) between the ages of 6 and 15 and “Il Naso D’oro” (the Golden Nose), an international competition for Amateur Clowns.

Numerous associations and public figures forwarded their good wishes including “Cirque du Soleil”.

GEF has ideally exported to all the participating nations Sanremo’s magnificent flowers, which decorated the stage of Teatro Ariston.

Different Italian and international Radios and Televisions mentioned GEF. The major newspapers and magazines in Italy and abroad, besides the principal national and foreign journalistic newspapers, wrote about GEF.
