FINAL PRESS RELEASE - 2014

The World Festival of Creativity in Schools , GEF, 16 years of international success - a major reference point in the world of education, has again this year attracted to the finals in Sanremo students, teachers, school workers, and experts from Italy and from all over the world.

4000 hotel nights and schools coming from 20 different counties are the confirmation of success and show how internationally important the event is.
The final stages of GEF 2014 took place in several venues in Sanremo, some concurrently, namely: “Teatro Ariston“ (music, dance, fashion, eurotheatre, movie, musicals and meetings and prize-giving of every competition), Ariston – hall GEF (exhibition area), town streets (CIAO GEF! - parade) and “GEF Welcome Party” at Victory’s. As always the judging panels for each competition included internationally renown highly qualified members.
GEF has obtained the stamp of approval of the President of the Italian Republic, The European Parliament, the Senate of the Italian Republic, Lower House President, the Presidency of the Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry of Economic Development, The Ministry of Work and Social Policies, Sanremo Promotion, Regione Liguria, Provincia di Imperia, UNESCO’s Italian Commission, UNICEF (Italian Committee), The international Institute of Humanitarian Law, AISA (Associazione Italiana per la lotta alle Sindromi Atassiche), P.A.I.S. (Polo Accademico Internazionale Sanremo), ALC (Art Loves Children), Dismamusica.
Important new events were sports for children and students as minivolley, football, rugby and the second edition of the “Sanremo International Schools’ Mini Marathon”, an indipendent competition not competitive that took place Saturday 10 May at the “Pista Ciclabile” along the seeside of Sanremo. More than 300 entries, among students, agonostics, paralympics, on a distance of 4219,5 meters (that’s exactly a tenth of a real marathon distance). Patrones was the Olympic Champion in marathon: Ornella Ferrara.
Every sport event was connected to a social tema: the peace for the minivolley, no racism for the football, memory of the end of Apartheid for the rugby; Children’s rights in collaboration with UNICEF and human rights in collaboration with the International Institute of Humanitarian Law.
As every year the major newspapers and magazines in Italy and abroad, besides the principal national and foreign journalistic newspapers, has written something about GEF.

This years edition of GEF was dedicated to the twentieth year since the end of Apatheid in South Africa and to the memory of the great and unforgettable Nelson Mandela. Who collected the Award was the Consul of South Africa in Milan, Mrs Makwatse Mokgethi.

GEF has received:

· A medal by “the President of the Republic”

· A plate by “the Lower House President”

· A bronze medal by “the Senate of the Republic”

Big success at Teatro Ariston for “sanremoJunior”, the International singing competition for soloist singers between the age of 6 and 15, now in it’s fifth year. The finalists performed with the “Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo” directed by M° Ten. Col. Leonardo Laserra Ingrosso (Director of the Band of the Italian Financial Police).

This years theme “No Racism!” was used in a Forum, organized for students and teachers, held by prestigious speakers as the President of UNICEF Dott. Giacomo Guerrera, the Vice Embassador of Uganda in Rome Dott.ssa Mumtaz Kassam and the Honorary Consul of South Africa in Genoa Dott. Enrico De Barbieri.
